Chapter 1
Before the appointment
Confirm how long the appliance should remain unused, clear the area requested by the company, secure pets and identify any smoke, odor, draft or moisture change. Gather prior reports and note the fuel and approximate use since the last service.
- Confirm arrival window and parking or access
- Ask about interior dust containment
- List every connected appliance or flue
- Record known repairs, fires or water entry
- Test smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms according to their instructions
Chapter 2
During the visit
The contractor should protect the work area and explain material changes to the agreed scope. Ask what portions of the system are being cleaned and observed, whether roof access is required and how deposits or obstructions will be handled.
Chapter 3
After the visit
Request an invoice that names the completed work and retain any report or photographs. If repair is recommended, ask whether the appliance should remain unused and obtain the finding, proposed method, materials, price and warranty in writing before deciding.
